The phenomenon of IAC and AAP in Indian democracy.

Even stagnant water stinks. So also the democracy. The Indian democracy which was running repeatedly only on a two track route in two extremes and an occassional disruption by third/left front and again back to the same old two tracks, but mostly dominted by INC.

When the democracy had started to stink, then emerged the phenomenon of IAC following the route of civil disobedience. I have been a supporter of this movement , albeit with some reservartion. See this

Then when the IAC was almost destroyed by the powers that be, Arvind Kejriwal took the plunge into politics. People called him opportunist. But then I thought, why not? What is so wrong in entering politics? If you cannot achieve your goal by being activist, then why not change the system by being a part of it. A very bold decision by Arvind Kejriwal. Even before he started, the established political parties had written AAP off calling it a non-entity. But AAP stood its ground and achieved what many could not.

So far so good.

But after the election results the scenario completely changed.

Delhi has given a verdict which is very difficult. But few things are very clear, Delhi has rejected INC, has supported BJP and chosen AAP as the guiding light for the way forward.

In a democracy the people's verdict should be respected, whether you like it or not.

BJP cannot form a government, it is very clear. If it does it will be a repeat of Vajpayee's 13 day government.

Now the onus is on AAP. INC and BJP both have said they will give unconditional support. But AAP is not willing to go anywhere. I think it is enjoying its moment of glory in a political limbo.

AAP should show maturity. It should realise that campaigning and negotiations for government formation are two different things. One need not compromise on ones principles, but at the same time one need not always treate other political parties as untouchables. AAP can learn this from Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

AAP has written letters to Sonia Gandhi and Rajnath Singh in response to their extension of support to AAP to form government in Delhi. Read one of them.

Though the letter speaks of political agenda if AAP forms government with INC or BJPs help, I think it sounds more like a campaign speech.

The tone of the letter reminded me of a couplet by the great Mirza Ghalib

"Har ek baat pe kehte ho tum, ke tu kya hai !

Tum hi kaho ke yeh andaaz-e-guftagoo kya hai "

AAP has beautiful ideals, good support base, best intentions and carries great hopes of the people of India, especially Delhi, it would make it immense good to remember that arrogance in a man(party) destroys the good in it/him in no time.

Delhi has welcomed AAP. As a friend of mine said on the day election results were announced "Delhi should celebrate Dusshehra, as AAP has destryoed the evil". But AAP should giveup the arrogance, which was the biggest fault in the evil/Ravana whose fall we celebrate on Dushehra !
