Digital dreams of a Selfie Man !

(This was first posted on my facebook page on 28.09.2015)

Once upon a time (present time) there lived a man. He was the head of a family which was not-so-well-do but not a hopeless case either. There were all sorts of problems in his house. But there was also lot of hope. He was the head of the family where everybody tried their level best to help each other. But they were still not out-of-poverty, so to say. They lived in an old ancestral home which was badly in need of repair. Because of its bad upkeep and a damaged wall there had been a robbery in the house (yes robberies can take place in poor people's houses also). Sometimes, the situation was that they had very little food on the dinner table. The loans and payments were piling up. His mother had a problem in her knees and could not walk normally. The kids in his house were taking ill very frequently.
Then there were some brighter things. His daughter had studied hard and secured admission in a premium institute for higher education. His very little land holding was just by the highway. His wealthy neighbor was offering him a very decent rent per month for a fraction of the land so that he could start his business there. Because of his perseverance and hard work, he was slowly getting more work for his skill.
Then one day he thought about how they had been living for the last 12 years and decided to change things. He did the following
1. Purchased a broadband connection in his house !
people's reaction : Horrendous, how could he? First purchase food grains to last for at least one month and then think of Computer-Shamputer. Shame on him.
2.Agreed to lease a small fraction of his land to his neighbor.
People's reaction : Outrageous ! Selling baap-dada ki zameen to enjoy himself and helping his wealthy friends. Shame on him. What will he leave for his children?
3.Got a Ceramic western style commode (WC) fitted in his house.
People's reaction: Khaane ke liye do waqt ka khaana nahi hai aur Tajmahal banaane chala hai.
People's reaction was harsh, but the most violent reaction came from the person whom he trusted the most. His wife. Of all the people, he needed her support the most. Listening to her neighbours criticism, She shouted at him. "Stop all this drama-baazi and dikhaawa. First make arrangements for two square meals a day for the foreseeable future. We are poor people we should not think of this luxury we should only be thinking of food, clothes and food again. What will people say?
Then he explained her
1. The broadband connection is for their daughter’s education. This will open up a world of education to her. Agreed! food and clothing is important. But this is also equally important. This cannot wait till our poverty is completely eradicated. May be this will help in eradicating the poverty earlier than otherwise possible.
2. He is not selling away the ancestral land but merely leasing it. With the monthly rent he can make use of the remaining land, which would otherwise remain unused for lack of funds.
3. The ceramic Western Commode is not(Just) for showoff but would be helpful for his mother who has knee problems. More over the toilets need repair and upkeep because they are the primary cause of the kids regularly taking ill. The money spent now will help in improving the health of old and young people at home and also further save money for them from recurring medical expenses.
The name of the man: NM (Normal man, just loves taking harmless selfies)
The name of his wife: Bharti !
Reacting people: AAM people!
So Mr. NM go on doing what is best for Bharti, ignore the Aam People. They are all ready to take benefit if anything good comes out of your efforts, or critise you to hell if it fails, after all they told you not to make any efforts, think only of two square meals a day !
